Youthful Gaffney golfers in spotlight at state tourney
      The Gaffney High golf team enters today's state Class 4A tournament attempting to prove that experience is overrated. The Indians return to the state tournament after a year's absence with a team that includes two juniors, a pair of sophomores and a seventh-grader.

Great Expectations
Post 109 begins practice with goal to capture state crown
      As usual, Post 109 opens another season with high expectations. "Obviously, our goal is always to win the state championship," Post 109 coach Jeff Osment said. The team nearly accomplished that goal last season, losing to Richland 6-2 in the state championship game.

Gaffney's Good is very good at state track qualifier

      Gaffney's Denzelle Good punched his ticket to the state track meet on Saturday. Good placed fifth in the shot put and second in the discus at Saturday's state qualifier at Spring Valley High School. The top eight finishers in each event advance to this Saturday's state meet in Columbia.

Kim cruises to Wachovia win
      Knee surgery prevented Tiger Woods from attempting to defend his Wachovia Championship title. Anthony Kim didn't disappoint fans at Quail Hollow Club looking for Tiger-like brilliance. In a near flawless performance Sunday, the 22- year-old Kim became the youngest winner on the PGA Tour in six years.

     GAFFNEY GRAPPLERS - These wrestlers participated in the Palmetto Ironman Wrestling Tournament in Greenwood. Pictured are (left to right) Mason Bradley - 1st place in Folkstyle, 2nd place Freestyle and 2nd place Greco-Roman; Thomas Diones - 3rd place in Folkstyle; Zack Clary - Palmetto Ironman Champion (1st place in all 3 styles); and Dillion Haney - Palmetto Ironman Champion (1st place in all 3 styles). These wrestlers wrestle with the Rock Head Wrestling Club at Limestone College under coach Ben Stehura. An Ironman competition includes all 3 styles of wrestling in the competition, including Folkstyle, Freestyle and Greco-Roman. Rock Head Wrestling Club is a USAWrestling summer wrestling program which practices Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. at Limestone College Physical Fitness Center.
