Willard Martin

Born in Cherokee County, Mr. Martin was a son of the late Aker and Ofay Taylor Martin. He was a Mason, a Shriner and member of Granard Masonic Lodge No. 186. Retired from Byars Construction Company, he was a World War II Army veteran, having been awarded two bronze stars while serving with the Army combat engineers. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church.
Mr. Martin was first married to the late Avis Hammett Martin.
Surviving are his wife, Agnes Collins Martin of the home; his sons and daughters in-law, Roger and Sandy Martin of Gaffney and Lane and Anne Martin of Mauldin.; his step-daughter, Jane Little and husband, Bobby, of Spartanburg; his step-son, Joel Collins and wife, Julia, of Westminister; his brothers, K.D. Martin of Rock Hill and Henry Martin of Crouse, N.C.; three granddaughters and one great grandson.
Services were held Sunday, May 4, at 3 p.m. at Midway Baptist Church with the Rev. Vernon Craig, Dr. M.B. Morrow Jr. and Dr. Jim McClure officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Visitation was held Saturday, May 3, from 6-8 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home, downtown location.
Active pallbearers were Paul Patterson, Ed Patterson, Joe Parris, John Winwright, Gene Gossett and Horace Whelchel.
Honorary pallbearers were present and former deacons of Midway Baptist Church.
Family members are at their respective homes
It is suggested that memorials be made to Interim Hospice, 775 Spartan Blvd., Spartanburg, S.C. 29301.
The family has entrusted Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home with their care.
