BRIEFS GHS faculty to hoop it up on Thursday The Gaffney High senior boys and girls basketball players will play the school's faculty members on Thursday. Gaffney girls coach Stacey Parris will play for the faculty, while boys head coach Mark Huff will officiate the game. The game will begin at 2:30 p.m. The public is invited. Tickets will be $3. Proceeds from the game will be used to pay team camp expenses this summer. The girls basketball team will have a car wash at Daddy Joe's on Saturday, May 31. Donations from the car wash will be used to pay team camp expenses this summer. Saints add basketball recruit Jarrell Douglass, a 6-foot 5-inch forward from Leesburg, Fla., has signed to play with Limestone College men's basketball. Douglass was a standout for Leesburg High School and Santa Fe Community College. Douglass comes to the Saints from Santa Fe Community College, where he played his freshman season. He averaged eight points and six rebounds per game while shooting 54% from the field in his first season of college ball. Douglass is no stranger to Limestone coach Brandon Scott's system as Scott coached Douglass as a sophomore and junior at Leesburg High School before taking a position at Limestone. In high school, Douglass earned First-Team All-Area, First-Team All- District, Third-Team All-State, and team MVP honors. He averaged 20 points per game, 13 rebounds per game, and four assists per game during his high school career. "Jarrell is a great sign for us," Scott said. "He is a great scorer and is tremendous on the boards on both ends of the floor. He is extremely skilled with the basketball and is very tough. He can beat you in a lot of ways and we cannot wait to get him on the court." LC track team adds to ranks Limestone Track and Field Head Coach Kevin Vees has announced the signing of seven student-athletes to the women's track & field team. Meagan Rodrigues (Manchester Township, N.J.), Samantha McGowan (Citrus Springs, Fla.), Catherine Tate (Blacksburg, S.C.), Brittny Shelton (Blacksburg, S.C.), Jenny Altieri (Kent Island, Md.), Anisha Barbee (Madison, Tenn.), and Theresa Braecklein (Walterboro, S.C.) will join the Lady Saints track and field team for the 2008-09 season. Meagan Rodrigues currently runs for Manchester Township High School in New Jersey. She will compete in the 100 meter and 200 meter as well as the javelin and the hammer events. Samantha McGowan will be joining her fellow teammate Mary Ann Bruno from Lecanto High School in Florida. McGowan recently qualified for the Florida state track and field championships in the long jump. Catherine Tate comes to Limestone from Blacksburg High School. She competes in the 100 meter, 200 meter, 4 x 100 relay and the discus. This year at the region meet, she ran a 13.13 to qualify her for the class AA Upper State meet. Brittny Shelton is also coming to Limestone from Blacksburg High School. This past season, she qualified for the region meet in the shot put and discus. Jenny Altieri comes to Limestone after a very successful four-year career at Kent Island High School in Maryland. She runs indoor and outdoor track and competes in cross country. Anisha "Bri" Barbee is a very talented sprinter. She currently runs track for Hunters Lane High School where she competes in the 100 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter, and the 4 x 100 relay. Theresa Braecklein comes to Limestone from Colleton County High School. She will be adding some depth to the Lady Saints' middle and long distance events. |
