Reunion

Descendants of James Madison and Christina Martin Peeler will have their annual family reunion Saturday, May 17, at noon at Abingdon Creek Baptist Church Fellowship Building.

Fund raisers

The Blacksburg Rotary Club will have its annual barbecue fund raiser Saturday, May 17. Proceeds will also benefit the Senior Centers of Cherokee County. Hickory cooked barbecue, potatoes, slaw, bread and tea is $7 a plate, eat-in or carry-out. Serving will begin at 11 a.m. at Blacksburg Elementary School, 402 Hardin St., Blacksburg, and at the Senior Centers of Cherokee County, 499 W. Rutledge Ave., Gaffney.

The Village School will have its annual yard and bake sale with over 40 families participating on Saturday, May 17, from 7-11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Gaffney parking lot. Cash only and no early bird sales. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held on May 24.

The Hejaz Sportsmen Unit will sponsor a hash sale on Wednesday, May 21 beginning at noon. Hash will be $5 per pint and will be sold at the Cherokee Shrine Club on Shrine Club Road.

Church news

Rock Springs Baptist Church, Blacksburg, will have a yard sale and breakfast biscuits Saturday, May 17, from 7-11 a.m. All proceeds will go to the church's building fund.

Blue Branch Baptist Church, 1703 Pacolet Hwy., will have its annual Singing Echoes outdoor singing Sunday

Eastside Baptist Church, 1284 E. Cherokee St., Blacksburg, will have a third Saturday night singing May 17 at 7 p.m. Guests will be the Faithful Men Quartet, Riverside Boys, The Mark Summitt Family and The Hamptons.

Kings Creek Church of God will have revival services beginning Sunday at 10:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. and continuing through Wednesday at 7 p.m. each day. Speakers will be Evangelists Rev. and Mrs. Donnie Sanders. There will be a puppet ministry for chil- dren of all ages at each service for 15 minutes.

Special events

CareerSource (Upstate Workforce Investment Board) in conjunction with the Cherokee County Department of Juvenile Justice is sponsoring Cherokee Countys' first "Climbing Toward Your Goals" job seekers fun day at CareerSource, 15616 Old Georgia Hwy., on Monday, May 19, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The day will target Cherokee County youths from age 16 to adults who are unemployed, underemployed and those hoping to obtain training to further their career goals.

Iron City Ministries Inc. in Blacksburg will be closed May 19-26 and will reopen Tuesday, May 27.

The Cherokee County Public Library Board will meet Tuesday, May 20, at 4 p.m.
