Offers opinions on shelter controversy

Dear Editor:

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times. If citizens would spay and neuter their animals and be responsible, there would be no problems requiring them to go to a shelter (or prison).

Animal Control has limited spending and would people rather have these animals running around unvaccinated and breeding to possibly hurting a child or adult or be put to death?

If it happens to someone I know or love, the animal will be put to death and animal control won't have to bother. I won't be thinking will it die the first shot but it will die.

Again, it's not the animal's fault and it's not Animal Control's fault.

They're doing the best they can with what they have to work with and they do not have enough funding. The person who made the big deal about it, in my opinion, has been aware of the need for more supplies for some time now and they just want attention.

I say fence the area in, let those animals run loose and let that person stand in the middle to see what happens.

Then they might think twice about how those animals are put down or dig into their own pocket, sell doughnuts, have yard sales and help solve the problem instead of creating more.

Sincerely, Angela Sanders Gaffney, SC
