GARDEN OF SECRETS
     Dara Thompson appears in the Gaffney Little Theatre's production of the classic musical, The Secret Garden, as Mary Lennox as she joins hands with Lily, long-dead wife of Archibald Craven, portrayed by Meg Foster. Mary, whose parents died of cholera in India, is taken in by Archibald Craven, a bitter hunchback who has been inconsolable since his beloved wife, Lily, died in childbirth. Mary learns that Craven's estate might still contain a wonderful English garden, and when she discovers the garden she has many surprises in store for her. The Secret Garden runs Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and closes with a Sunday matinee at 3 p.m. Call 4889-4589 for reservations.

Sorority installs officers at Founder's Day dinner
      Xi Alpha Delta of Beta Sigma Phi held its monthly meeting May 5 at the home of member Rebecca Robbs. Thirteen members were present. After the opening ritual, Libby Reed, president, called the meeting to order. Members answered the Greek roll call and Patty Greene read the minutes of the April meeting that were approved as read.

Cusaac - Hughes
      Roneisha Cusaac of Charlotte and Joe L. Hughes II of Gaffney will be married Saturday, June 21, at Mt. Zion AME Church in Florence. Miss Cusaac is the daughter of Howard and Evelyn Cusaac of Florence. She graduated from Winthrop University with a B.S. in Speech Language Pathology and received a Masters of Science in Communication Disorders from Western Carolina University.

Buddy Poppy drive this weekend in Blacksburg
      Blacksburg VFW 4941 Post and its Ladies Auxiliary will be conducting their annual Buddy Poppy drive Friday, May 23, and Saturday, May 24. "We will be distributing Buddy Poppies at several locations in and around Blacksburg," said Clarence E. Hammett, VFW Post 4941 Commander.

      Fund raisers The Hejaz Sportsmen Unit will sponsor a hash sale today, May 21, beginning at noon. Hash is $5 per pint and will be sold at the Cherokee Shrine Club on Shrine Club Road. Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department will be selling barbecue and hash on Memorial Day, May 26, at the main station and substation, starting at 8 a.m. and continuing until sold out.
