'Volatile Baby' will bring traditional country sound to Shindig

The threesome will be performing at the City of Gaffney's Shindig at the Gaffney Cabin Concert Series on Friday, May 23, 2008 at 6:00 p.m.

City officials encourage everyone to come early to get a good spot, bring a comfortable lawn chair or blanket, and enjoy delicious food and beverages provided by local vendors. In the event of rain, the show will be moved into the Capri Theater located at 302 North Limestone Street.

"Volatile Baby" was formed when Stewart, a songwriter, actress and composer for the theatre got together with Gambill, a songwriter, violinist and percussionist for the "Doubting Thomas Band;" and theatre director and pianist Allison Modafferi. The group creates a musical landscape that pushes traditional boundaries and pulls at the listener.

Released in May 2006, Traveling Light was the group's first CD. Guest musicians included Carlene Carter, daughter of June Carter Cash, Jim Brock, former drummer for Kathy Mattea, Wayne Jernigan and Don Dixon of the group REM.

According to Dixon, who produced the CD, "Volatile Baby," builds on the grand tradition of female vocal groups while adding their own ingenuity, spirit, instrumental prowess, and joy. Their inimitable chemistry shines through their songs live and in the studio.

The group has been busy performing and recording in their Charlotte studio- producing the latest release, Backroads. Bob Engel and Gina Stewart collaborated on the project with additional assistance by Mike Pepe. The songs were basically recorded live with all the musicians sitting in a circle fashion, a style which honored the stunning tribute to the traditional country songs of Ola Belle Reed and The Carter Family.
