Retired from Cherokee Finishing

Tom Smith, 74, of 717 Marietta St., widower of Annie Mae Perry Smith, passed away Monday, May 19, 2008, at his residence.

Born in Gaffney, Mr. Smith was a son of the late Elijah and Belle Smith. He was retired from Cherokee Finishing Company and was of the Baptist faith. He will always be remembered by his family as a loving father.

Surviving are his sons, Marshall Smith of Clover, Fred Smith of Cowpens, Tommy Smith of Baghdad, Iraq, and Jimmy Smith of Easley; his daughters, Barbara Jean Reckor of Blacksburg, Daisy Fancher of Timberlake, N.C., Tina Burke of Gastonia, N.C., Lisa Self of Greenville, N.C., and Penny Terry of Gaffney; his sister, Chrystal Gossett of Cowpens; 21 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a son, James Smith, and three brothers, Paul Smith, Albert Smith and Sam Smith.

Graveside services will be held Friday, May 23, at 2 p.m. in Frederick Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Alan Peeler.

The family is at the home, 717 Marietta St., and will receive friends Thursday, May 22, from 6-8 p.m. at Shuford- Hatcher Funeral Home at Frederick Memorial Gardens.
