Gaffney High hires strength coach
Strength coach will work with all GHS athletic teams

      Gaffney High athletic teams won't be the weak sister anymore. Gaffney joined the growing list of high schools to hire a strength coach. Tony Smith was approved by the Cherokee County school board on Monday. Smith currently is employed by Florida Atlantic University.

Post 109 opens season with one goal

      Despite its recent gaudy records and string of playoff appearances, there is still one glaring omission to the American Legion Post 109 resume - a state championship. That could change this year. Post 109, which opens its season today against Cherryville at Commissioners Field, returns 11 players from last year's team that advanced to the Southeast Regional.

Indians' new 'no-huddle' a work in progress

      The Gaffney High coaching staff is in no hurry to install its new nohuddle offense during spring practice. "We are taking it slow," Gaffney football coach Phil Strickland said. "It's a simple offense once they grasp it." Strickland said a lack of depth along the offensive line has been a factor in moving slowly to install the new offense.

      SECAUCUS, N.J. - Suddenly, a coaching search isn't the only big decision facing the Chicago Bulls. Now they have to figure out what to do with the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft. The Bulls were the surprise winners of the draft lottery Tuesday night, giving them the right to choose between Michael Beasley and Derrick Rose.
