Lawrence Allen

BLACKSBURG - Lawrence Lee Allen, 79, of 1783 N. Mountain St., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 22, 2008, at his residence.

Born in Cleveland County, N.C., he was the husband of Sara Huskey Allen and son of the late Baxter Lee Allen

and Pearl Shuford Allen. Mr. Allen was

a veteran of the

United States Army and was retired from the textile industry. He was a Mason with Buffalo Lodge 202, a member of the VFW and a volunteer with the Blacksburg Fire Department for 50 years. Mr. Allen was a member of Mt. Paran Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Dana Allen and wife, Mary Pat, of Blacksburg; two brothers, Jack Allen and wife, Lucille, of Blacksburg and Bob Allen and wife, Shirley, of McConnells; and two grandchildren, David Allen and Heather Allen.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Allen was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Allen.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 24, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home. Services will be in Blakely Funeral Home Chapel at 1 p.m., immediately following the visitation, and will be conducted by Dr. Charles Moss. Interment will follow in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
