Littlejohn Littlejohn Meetings

The Gaffney Business and Professional Women's Club will meet Monday, May 26, at 6:30 p.m. at the House of Pizza. Church news Ebenezer Baptist Church will have its annual baccalaureate service Sunday, May 25, during 11:15 a.m. worship service. Guest speaker will be Trellis K. Littlejohn, son of Virginia Davis and Willis Vanlue. Littlejohn has four children, Trellis II, Ventae, Tremina and Ashlee, and one granddaughter, A'myracle Danielle. A 1984 graduate of Gaffney High School, he is employed by Nestle Frozen Food and is a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where he serves on the youth committee. The 2008 high school, college, kindergarten and Head Start graduates will be presented special gifts during the program. The church's active and retired school teachers will be in charge of the service.

Ordination services for Donald Logan will be held Sunday, May 25, at 3 p.m. at New Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The Rev. Antwonn Lynch of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, Gastonia, N.C., will be the guest speaker.

Brooks Brooks Annual Woman's Day services will be held Sunday, May 25, during the 9:30 a.m. worship service at Island Creek Baptist Church, 2112 Battleground Road, Cowpens. Women will be in charge of the pulpit services and music will be presented by the Women's Choir. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Ruby B. Miller, associate minister of Youngs Grove Baptist Church, Blacksburg. The service will conclude with the crowning of the "Woman of the Year 2008." Vying for the title are Dorothy Dawkins and Dana Wilkins.

at 11. The afternoon service will begin at 3 with the Rev. Roger Fuller, pastor of Zion Hill Baptist Church, Cherryville, N.C., as guest speaker. Rev. Fuller will be accompanied by his choirs and congregation.

Annual Youth Week activities will be held at Bethel Baptist Church, 218 Dr. L.M. Rosemond Lane, beginning Tuesday, May 27, with a youth seminar at 5 p.m. in the church dining hall. A threenight youth revival will be held May 28-30 at 6:30 p.m. Speaker will be Evangelist Michael J. Wilson, a native of Seneca and a student at Morehouse College, Atlanta. Ga. All youths and the public are invited to attend.

The Mass Choir of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church will sponsor a Gospel Fest on Sunday, May 25, at 4 p.m.

Cherokee Falls Baptist Church, 109 School St., Cherokee Falls, will have a singing Sunday, May 25, at 6 p.m.

The Thickety Mountain Baptist Association's annual Junior Missionaries Christian Retreat will be held Saturday, May 24, with registration from 8:30-9:15 a.m. and the assembly beginning at 9:20 a.m. at the Associational Building, 1505 Old Post Road. Classes will be offered for all ages, including adults. Several topics for the retreat will be discussed by various facilitators. All Juniors and Advisors are urged to attend.

Family Day will be held Sunday, May 25, at White Plains Baptist Church during morning worship services. The Rev. John E. Wilkins, associate minister of Philadelphia Baptist Church, will be the speaker.

The Singing Echoes will present an outdoor concert Sunday, May 25, at 2 p.m. at Blue Branch Baptist Church, 1703 Pacolet Hwy.

White Plains Baptist Church will have a "Tailgate for Christ," Saturday, May 24, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Various foods will be sold and there will be gospel entertainment.

The Missionary Society of Allen Temple CME Church will have its annual program,"The Rainbow Rally," Sunday, May 25, at 3:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Annie Littlejohn, associate minister of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Gaffney.

A special dedication service will be held Sunday, May 25, at 4 p.m. at White Plains Baptist Church. The Rev. James Patton Jr., pastor, will deliver the message.

Memorial Day events

Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department will sell barbecue and hash on Memorial Day at the main station and substation, starting at 8 a.m. and continuing until sold out. Pints of barbecue, hash, and barbecue slaw are $7 each; or 3 pints for $20 The main station is at 137 Blackwell Road (839-4500) and the substation is at 1136 N. Mountain St. (839-4551).

Blacksburg VFW 4941 Post and its Ladies Auxiliary will have their annual Buddy Poppy drive May 23-24. The organization will be selling Buddy Poppies at several locations in and around Blacksburg.

Holiday closings

The City of Gaffney Sanitation Department will observe Monday, May 26, as a holiday. Monday's route will be picked up Wednesday, May 28. Residents are asked to have carts on the curbside by 7 a.m. May 28.

The Cherokee County Solid Waste Collection, Recycling and Landfill departments will be closed Monday, May 26. Monday's routes will be picked up Monday, June 2. Extra containers may be used for overflow.

Fund raisers

Macedonia Baptist Church will have a barbecue fund raiser Saturday, May 24, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. A family meal package is $10 and includes one pound of barbecue, slaw, buns and sauce.

The American Red Cross, 405 N. Logan St., will have a yard sale for charity today, May 23, from noon until 4 p.m. and Saturday, May 24, from 8 a.m until noon. There will be lots of great items for sale. All proceeds will go to support the purchase of disaster supplies for seniors and the under-served in Cherokee County.

The Covington family will have a yard sale Saturday, May 24, from 7 a.m. until at Bethel CME Church, 106 S. Academy St., Blacksburg. The yard sale is being held to support Student Ambassador Amanda McCluney of Blacksburg High School for her People to People tour of Europe July 7-27 and in memory of Robert L. Covington. There will be clothes, shoes, handbags, books, housewares, etc. for sale.
