Post 109 stumbles out of gate
      Post 109 manager Jeff Osment was pleased with his team's pitching and defense. Offense and focus were another matter, though. Bobby Jackson pitched and Jake Watson pitched well but the offense mustered just eight hits in a season-opening 8-3 home loss to Cherryville on Wednesday.

      The Blacksburg football team will scrimmage themselves today at 7 p.m. in a spring game at T.A. Campbell stadium. New coach Mickey Moss will let his 70 players run a limited form of the new offense and defense in the full contact scrimmage.

      Summer basketball team camps don't generate the hype of regular-season games, but they go along way in determining the team's fortunes. That's the reason the Gaffney Indians boys varsity team will have a busy summer - as usual.

McKowen homers, but Post 109 junior team falls
      The newly-formed Gaffney Post 109 Junior American Legion team struggled at times at the plate in its seasonopener at Rock Hill on Thursday. Rock Hill had no such problems. Rock Hill broke open a tight game with four runs in the sixth to earn an 8- 3 victory.

Burger King tops FPF, 11-5
      Matthew Overton went 3 for 3 and Jordan DeStaffino had a triple and two RBIs to lead the Burger King Red Sox to an 11-5 victory over First Piedmont Federal in a Minor League matchup. The winning coaches also praised their team's defensive effort.
