Police find hole chopped in store roof

By TIM GULLA Ledger Staff Writer tim@gaffneyledger.com

A burglar went to somewhat great heights June 2 in an attempt to break into a North Limestone Street convenience store.

Responding to an alarm call at the H&K Food Mart, 1005 N. Limestone St., at about 4:40 a.m., Gaffney police found a ladder at the rear of the building. Upon climbing the ladder, police said they found a hole had been chopped through the roof of the convenience store.

Not knowing if the burglar( s) had gained access, police said they called in a K-9 unit to first clear the store. The burglar(s) were not inside, however, and police said the dog lost their trail.

No theft losses were reported, though the building sustained about $500 in roof damage and $300 in ceiling damage.
