Westlane teaming with law enforcement to offer free bowling for students
Westlane Bowl manager Debbie Wright has received plenty of support from law enforcement agencies for a "Say No To Drugs, Go Bowling" summer program. Wright (center) is shown Friday with Gaffney Police Chief John O'Donald, South Carolina Highway Patrol Cpl. J.T. Benfield, and Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler. Westlane Bowl manager Debbie Wright said she hopes the lure of free bowling will encourage students to get involved in a positive activity this summer.
Westlane Bowl has partnered with local law enforcement agencies to sponsor a summer bowling program called, "Say No To Drugs, Go Bowling."
Cherokee County students and faculty have each been issued a summer bowling card at Westlane Bowl.
The card is good for one free game of bowling each day from June 6-Aug. 23. Students and teachers will still have to pay a $1 shoe rental fee. The bowling alley will provide additional games at a discounted rate of $1.50 per game before 6 p.m.
"We feel that giving children something positive to do like bowling will help keep them out of trouble and in good health," Wright said.
The Gaffney Police Department, South Carolina Highway Patrol, Cherokee County Coroner's Office and Cherokee County Sheriff's Office have agreed to support the summer bowling program.
Westlane Bowl will track usage of the free bowling passes throughout the summer. The reward for participation will come when the program ends shortly before school starts.
"On Aug. 23, a 'Blast Off to Bowling and Community Safety Day' will be held at Westlane Bowl," Wright said. "We will have officers present the children who have participated the most in the program with a certificate."
