Former Gaffney star suits up for HiToms

STAFF REPORTS

The HiToms will had one more more arm at their disposal Tuesday when they faced the Copperheads in Asheboro with the arrival of Justin Sarratt.

The former Gaffney High standout and sophomore right-hander who plays his college ball for Clemson arrived at Finch Field Tuesday afternoon. Sarratt didn't see any action in a 6-5 HiToms loss to Asheboro.

The addition of Sarratt is good news for the HiToms, who used five pitchers in an extra-inning exhibition game against Kernersville on Sunday before using three Monday night in their 2-0 win against Martinsville.

Sarratt was a member of the 2007 Coastal Plain League champion HiToms, going 3-2 with a 3.35 ERA in nine appearances.

In his second season with Clemson, Sarratt was 2-2 with a 4.34 ERA in 27 appearances.

With the NCAA Baseball National Championship Tournament moving into the Super Regional round, the HiToms are expecting the arrival of several more players.

Jeff Arnold (Louisville), Phi Irwin (Ole Miss) and Jesse Haney (UNCWilmington) now are expected to arrive now that their tournament runs have come to an end.
