Gaffney High top grads have more in common than good grades

      Madison McCraw and Hannah Wood have been a couple since before the two Gaffney High graduates were old enough to drive. McCraw and Wood have been together since November of 2004. In an unusual twist, the boyfriend and girlfriend are the top two 2008 graduates at GHS.

      Pastor Jamie Martin filed Tuesday to run against Joe Craig for the District 6 school board seat. Martin has been a pastor for six years. He recently became pastor at Lavonia Baptist Church in Mooresboro, N.C. He previously worked as a Cherokee County employee and spent years as the Board of Public Works distribution supervisor.

N.C. man airlifted after crash on Hwy. 5

      A Davidson, N.C., man crashed his car during a June 3 police chase and had to be flown by helicopter to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. According to a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the incident began when Richard Lee Alexander, 26, of Lakeside Drive, Davidson, N.C.

Police stop women from taking items from Salvation Army dropbox
      Two women were stopped from taking donated items from a Salvation Army drop box May 31. According to the Gaffney Police Department, a passerby informed police that two people were taking items from the drop box on West Robinson Street. When police arrived, they found one woman holding bed rails and the other holding a microwave.

      Melvin Lancaster wasn't expected to last long when he was placed on the front lines in the Korean War. An ankle injury in basic training left Lancaster with no experience before he was sent to the front line in 1951 as a machine gunner for a reconnaissance team.
