Chase that began in York County ends here with two men facing charges

By TIM GULLA Ledger Staff Writer tim@gaffneyledger.com

Two Charlotte, N.C., men were arrested early Thursday after they allegedly led York County deputies on a chase into Cherokee County.

According to a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, a Cherokee County deputy ended the police chase near York Highway and Mullinax Circle by deploying a spike strip in the road to damage the vehicle's tires.

Arrested were Quadarius Lamar Shine, 18, of Lamberth Drive and Michael Thompson, 23, of Cinderella Road.

The incident began at about 2:50 a.m. when Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputy Brian Mullinax was notified by dispatchers that York County deputies were chasing a vehicle. The deputy spotted the vehicle at York Highway and Clover Highway and activated his blue lights and siren in an attempt to get the car to stop. During the chase, the deputy was informed the vehicle had been reported stolen out of North Carolina. Another deputy used the spike strip to end the chase.

Shine, who was driving the car, refused a breath test at the scene, according to the police report.

Shine was booked on charges of possession with intent to deliver marijuana, failure to stop for a blue light, and first offense driving under the influence, according to Cherokee County Detention Center records. Thompson was booked on charges of possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine and simple possession of marijuana. Bond had not been set for either man
