The Tri-City Singers was formed in 1981 and first came together as a community choir performing in local and regional churches throughout the Carolinas. The group named the Tri-City Singers built a large following in and around the group members' home bases of Charlotte, Gastonia, Spartanburg and Greenville, where they and director all still reside. He was also instrumental in signing the Tri-City Singers to their first major-label recording contract, which yielded the 1993 hit album, A Songwriter's Point Of View. Nominated for numerous Stellar and NAACP Image Awards, that debut was followed two years later with Tri-City's No.1 breakthrough album and stage production, the Grammy nominated Bible Stories.

The choir's latest release, Tri-City's Finale CD, has won the choir national and world acclaim. In January 2007, Donald Lawrence and the Tri- City Singers were Stellar Award Winners. The Singers received the title, Artist of the Year, Choir of the Year for the Finale CD Act One, Video of the Year and"Contemporary Choir of the Year. In March of 2007, the choir also won the 2007 Chevrolet Most Notable Achievement Award.

Mrs. Spann has performed with the choir for 21 years
