Jesse Eugene Scruggs
Retired from Overnite Trucking
Jesse Eugene Scruggs, 87, a resident of Magnolias of Gaffney, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 9, 2008, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center. Born in Cherokee County, he was the widower of Sybil Byars Scruggs and son of the late James Hollis Scruggs and Lula Henderson Scruggs. Mr. Scruggs was retired from Overnight Trucking and was a member of Northeast Fellowship Church of God, formerly Elm Street Church of God. He is survived by a daughter, Doris Parris and husband, Benjamin; three grandchildren, Debbie Robinson, and husband, Terry, Denise Gilliland, and husband, Kip, and Carla Parris; and six great-grandchildren, Zach Gilliland, Zane Gilliland, Christian Munsterman, Bryon Munsterman, Kirk Robinson and Kevin Robinson. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Scruggs was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Scruggs, Robert Scruggs and Horace Scruggs; two sisters, Ersell Cody and Amy Farley; and a step-son, Jerry Wayne Byars. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 11, from 6-8 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home. Services will be held Thursday, June 12, at 4 p.m. at Northeast Fellowship Church of God, formerly Elm Street Church of God, and will be conducted by the Revs. James Garner and Michael Perry. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Church of God Home for Children, P..O. Box 1137, Gaffney, S.C. 29342.
