BY TIM GULLA Ledger Staff Writer tim@gaffneyledger.com

A 22-year-old man had to be airlifted to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center early Sunday morning after he was shot multiple times in the Cherokee County Courthouse overflow parking lot.

The Gaffney Police Department wasn't able to release too many details Sunday afternoon because the case still was open and being actively investigated. The shooting victim, identified as 22-year-old Jarrell Jefferies, no specific address given by police, was listed in serious condition at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center as of early Sunday evening, a spokeswoman confirmed.

According to police, Jefferies was shot multiple times with a handgun while in the county's overflow parking lot at about 3:40 a.m. on Sunday. The parking lot is located at the intersection of Dr. L.M. Rosemond Lane and Petty Street. There were multiple people present when the shooting occurred.

Citing the ongoing nature of the investigation, Det. Mike Segina declined to say what might have precipitated the shooting.

Jefferies was airlifted to Spartanburg Regional at about 5:30 a.m. on Sunday.
