Police investigating theft of coins valued at $100,000
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft of an estimated $100,000 in coins from a Blacksburg home during a June 11 burglary.
According to a report at the sheriff's office, someone broke into a South Charleston Street home between 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The home owner noticed his front door open and that the inside of the home had been rummaged through.
The report didn't say what type of coins were taken although the value is listed at $100,000.
The Gaffney Police Department has charged a Winston-Salem, N.C., man with shoplifting more than $600 in shirts, shorts and flipflops from Prime Outlets - Gaffney.
According to a police report, an officer was flagged down June 8 by an employee from the Bass Outlet store and directed to a man suspected of shoplifting.
Police said Larry Darnell Watson, 52, of South Ridge Court, Winston-Salem, stated he had taken clothing from the store.
Police recovered 13 shirts, two pairs of shorts, and a pair of flip-flops with a total value of $609.83.
About 300 feet of welding lead was stolen from a Bonner Road property June 10.
The theft occurred between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m., according to a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. The welding lead is valued at about $700.
More than $1,600 in jewelry was reported stolen from a Peeler Ridge Road home during a recent burglary, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
According to a police report, an unknown person entered the home in the 200 block between 7 p.m. on June 4 and 10 p.m. June 6. In addition to the jewelry, the homeowner reported the theft of $200 in tools and $18.50 in gasoline.
Thieves targeted a video game system during a recent break-in on Chestnut Street.
According to the Gaffney Police Department, the unknown subject(s) broke into a home in the 200 block sometime between 7:30 p.m. June 7 and 2 a.m. June 8 by smashing a window on a rear door. A Playstation 3 video game system valued at $300 was the only item reported stolen.
A vehicle was reported stolen from the parking lot of Starmax Entertainment Complex, according to the Gaffney Police Department.
Some time between 11:30 p.m. June 7 and 1:15 a.m. June 8, a 1991 Chevrolet Blazer, two-tone burgundy in color, was taken from the lot. The owner of the vehicle, a 35- year-old Wilkinsville Highway man, said his vehicle contained an estimated $3,000 in fishing rods. The vehicle itself is valued at $2,500. Police said the vehicle had a South Carolina license plate of 840-3DR.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported the theft of a vehicle from East Junior High Road on June 6.
According to a police report, a white 2007 Ford Focus owned by a West Knot Street man was taken from East Junior High Road sometime between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. June 6. The vehicle, which had a South Carolina license plate of 939-XFB, was valued at $14,000.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported the recovery of stolen newspaper boxes that were dumped in a creek near Blacksburg.
According to a report, the six newspaper boxes found off Little Hope Road and Highway 29 were found on June 7. The Cherokee Chronicle is listed as the victim in the report, though other newspapers' boxes were found, too.
The Gaffney Police Department filed an arrest warrant against a West Buford Street man following a June 11 incident during which he allegedly hindered the apprehension of woman wanted by authorities.

DENTURES of an arrest warrant. Police claim Reginald Barnes, 41, hindered officers by refusing entrance to the apartment and hiding the woman under a bed. He was charged with hindering officers serving process.
A West Floyd Baker Boulevard title loan company reported the theft of a car from its parking lot.
According to a report at the Gaffney Police Department, a gray 1997 Dodge Intrepid was taken from Car Title Loans, 1502 W. Floyd Baker Blvd., between June 6 and June 11. The vehicle, valued at $1,375, had scratches on the passenger side and no license plate.
A bag of men's clothing valued at $250 was reported stolen from a South Logan Street home during a June 11 break-in.
According to a report at the Gaffney Police Department, someone entered the home in the 500 block by pushing the glass out of a storm door and then kicking open another door. Damage is estimated at $185.
Two tool boxes and a push lawn mower were reported stolen from a Pine Street home during a recent burglary.
According to a report at the Gaffney Police Department, the home in the 200 block was burglarized between 10 a.m. on June 6 and noon on June 10. One tool box was red with sliding doors. The second tool box was gray. The home owner told police they contained about $800 in miscellaneous tools. The lawn mower is valued at $20.
