Post 109 gets busy this week
Post 109's Dylan Jolley and his teammates will play four league games this week, starting with today's matchup against Inman at Commissioners Field. Post 109 coach Jeff Osment realizes this week could separate the league's contenders from the pretenders.
Gaffney (4-1) will play four league games this week, beginning with today's home matchup with Inman. Gaffney also will travel to Spartanburg on Tuesday before hosting Shelby in a non-league tilt on Wednesday.
Gaffney steps back into league play at Greer on Thursday before a week-ending home game against Union on Friday.
"This week, you can either go ahead of the pack or not," Osment said.
The consecutive games will allow the team to get into a rhythm, Osment said.
"This is legion baseball," he said. "We are used to playing everyday. It's hard to focus on what you are doing when you play a game and then you are off for a few days."
Gaffney is coming of a six-day layoff. Gaffney unleashed an offensive fury in a 12-9 win over Greer last Tuesday.
In that game, Dylan Jolley, Lee Gerwick and McCrae Norton all had three hits for Post 109.
Osment said he hopes that offensive groove will continue.
"Hopefully, we will pick up where we left off," he said. "We are being a lot more selective at the plate."
Inman ace Jimmy Revan isn't expected to pitch today. But Inman is still dangerous, according to Osment.
"They are right in the thick of things," he said.
Jason Biershenk will get the start for Post 109.
"I feel confident with Jason on the mound for us," Osment said.
Bobby Jackson will get the call at Spartanburg on Tuesday. Jackson allowed just four hits in Gaffney's 20-1 win over Spartanburg last week.
