Workshops

Peachtree Centre will host a stress-management workshop on Thursday, June 19, at 5:30 p.m. The presenter, Kelly Bushéy, is a licensed professional counselor, employed by upstate hospice provider SouthernCare. Bushéy presents an upbeat, humorous approach to dealing with life stressors. Topics include Caregiver stress - Identifying burnout - and offers a faithbased approach to handling life's most difficult situations. This workshop is designed specifically for the staff, residents and families of Peachtree Centre but is also open to the community. This is a free event and light refreshments will be provided. Fund raisers

Moses Wood Camp Sons of Confederate Veterans will have a yard sale Saturday, June 21, from 7-11 a.m. at 1746 N. Limestone St. Refreshments will be available.

Peachtree Centre will have a fish fry fundraiser Friday, June 20, to raise money to purchase a flat screen television for each of the units. Plates will be $5 and may be picked up starting at 11 a.m. Plates include fish, baked beans, slaw and roll. Orders may be placed Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. by calling 487-2717, ext. 205. Orders must be placed by 4 p.m. on June 19. Orders of 10 or more plates made by businesses will be delivered (within reasonable driving distance).

Reunions

The Wylie family reunion will be held Sunday, June 22, at 1 p.m. at Buffalo Baptist Church in Blacksburg. Those attending are asked to bring food and beverages. Paper products and ice will be provided. For more information, call 828-264-2471.

Church news

Mikes Creek Baptist Church will have a pre-installation service for Pastor Dr. Joseph Sanders-Parks on Friday, June 20, at 7 p.m. Guest preacher and church for the event will be the Rev. Michael Bridges and Concord Baptist Church. The church's YWAs will host a rainbow tea to introduce the pastor and his family to the area on June 21 at the Boys and Girls Club, 201 Pecan St., at 6 p.m. A donation of $5 is requested. The church will conclude the celebration services for the month of June with a liturgical celebration on June 22 at 10 a.m. An afternoon service will highlight national and state leaders. Guest for the 4 p.m. service will be the Rev. Dr. Gregory Moss and congregation of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Charlotte. Rev. Dr. Moss is president of the N.C. General Baptist State Convention. The formal wedding/installation service of Dr. Sanders-Parks as pastor will conclude June 29. Guest preacher at the 10 a.m. service will be the Rev. Fred Grambell, former pastor of Concord Baptist Church. The installation service continues at 5 p.m. with the guest preacher the Rev. Charles Goodman and Tabernacle Baptist Church of Augusta, Ga. The Shady Grove Praise Singers' will have their 29th Joyful Praise anniversary on Sunday, June 29, at 4 p.m. Choirs from throughout the area will be on program.

The Youth Ministry of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church will have a youth retreat on Saturday, June 21, beginning at 12 p.m. Theme is "God's Fire, Come and Get Some" Speakers will be Johnny Floyd and the Revs. Missy Lyles and Kenneth Miller.

Shady Grove Baptist Church will have its annual baccalaureate service honoring graduates - kindergarten, high school and college - Sunday June 22, during the morning worship service.

The Women's Ministry of Suck Creek Baptist Church will sponsor a fashion show on Saturday, June 21, at 5 p.m., in the Life Center on Hwy. 11. Everyone is invited to take part. Anyone who would like to participate as a model (women, men, children, youths, including seniors). Registration to enter the show is a one-time $5. Bible Schools

Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church will have Vacation Bible School June 23-27 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Theme for the week is "Outrigger Island - Living God's Unshakable Truth." The Rev. Shane Moore, minister of children and youth, and the pastor, Dr. Clyde Thomas, invite all children to attend this special week.

Shady Grove Baptist Church wll have Vacation Bible School June 23- 27 from 6- 8 p.m. The theme is "Around the Campfire with Jesus." There will be classes for all ages - preschool to adults. The VBS Fun Day will be on Saturday, June 28. There will be great learning and refreshments nightly and great fun on Saturday.
