Rangers nip
Braves, 5-4
Michael Young snapped a 1-for-31 slump in a dramatic way.
The four-time All-Star had the game-ending RBI single and the Texas Rangers rallied twice to beat Atlanta 5-4 Thursday, the Braves' major league record 22nd straight one-run loss on the road.
Hitless in his previous 13 at bats, Young knew it was about time to reverse that trend.
''Gradually today I started seeing the ball better and driving the ball to right field,'' said Young, whose average during the slump had dipped from .304 to .282 prior to Thursday's game. ''I think I'm on my way. Sometimes a slump is good for you. I love playing in the big leagues because the game always pushes you to test you.''
Wade makes Olympic hoop roster
Barring a last-moment change of plans, Dwyane Wade is heading to Beijing.
Wade, the Miami Heat guard who led his team to the 2006 NBA championship and has been battling injuries for much of the two years since, will be named to the U.S. Olympic basketball team Monday, according to a person familiar with the decision. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because USA Basketball won't announce the team until Monday.
NBA Final
draws big ratings
The NBA finals games were the six highest-rated and most-watched programs so far in June, the first time that has happened in seven years.
Boston's victory over the Los Angeles Lakers averaged a 9.3 rating for the series, up 50 percent over the 6.2 for San Antonio's sweep of Cleveland last year. The Celtics' Game 6 clincher on Tuesday earned a 10.7 rating on ABC, averaging 16.9 million viewers over the course of the game.
Game 5, two nights earlier, averaged 17.4 million viewers.
