Cattlemen hear Ag Commissioner

S.C. Commissioner of Agriculture Hugh Weathers addresses the Cherokee County Cattlemen's Association. S.C. Commissioner of Agriculture Hugh Weathers addresses the Cherokee County Cattlemen's Association. With the rising cost of fuel, food, and seemingly everything else, Hugh Weathers takes the heat on a number of issues.

As South Carolina's Commissioner of Agriculture, Weathers is responsible for all things agriculture. Recently, the Cherokee County Cattlemen's Association got the chance to meet with their Commissioner at the Cherokee County Clemson Extension Office. After a steak dinner sponsored by AgSouth Farm Credit and BWI Companies, Inc., Weathers talked with approximately 70 local cattlemen about his approach to running the South Carolina Department of Agriculture.

He covered topics such as 'Certified South Carolina Grown' produce, alternative fuel sources, the salmonella scare in tomatoes, and his own dairy business. Later, he took time to greet guest and answer individual questions.
