Contributions needed to sponsor fireworks show

A group of area residents have committed to raise the money to provide the annual Independence Day Fireworks display at Cowpens National Battlefield.

The Friends of Cowpens Battlefield, a non-profit organization registered with the South Carolina Secretary of State's Office, will assist the Battlefield staff in promoting the Nation's birthday on a local level through this annual patriotic program. The Battlefield itself is prohibited from involvement in fundraising activities by U.S. Department of Interior rules.

Through sponsorships from corporate and individual donations funds can be raised for this time-honored tradition. Without these sponsorships this year's event, scheduled for Saturday, July 5, will not take place. To date, approximately one-half of the total amount needed has been raised through private and corporate sponsorships.

The Committee would greatly appreciate your response to its request for help. Contributions in any amount may be made to:

Friends of Cowpens Battlefield, P. O. Box 308, Chesnee, SC 29323.

Please feel free to call Michelle Lester, Cowpens National Battlefield, at 864- 461-2828, or Pat Throneburg, Gaffney Visitors Center, at 864-487-6244, if you have any questions.

Each year approximately 10,000 - 15,000 visitors attend the Cowpens National Battlefield's Independence Day Celebration that includes the Fireworks Display and other activities that include music, Battlefield walks, musket, rifle, and cannon firing demonstrations, family activities and games that precede the fireworks finale. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and a picnic and come for the entire day and evening, or come for part of the day and then come back for the beautiful fireworks on Saturday evening. This is a patriotic family event not to be missed.
