Shirley Owens

Former employee of Taylor Watson Furniture and Taylor Furniture

Shirley Allison Owens, of 134 Cooper St., affectionately called "Sherper" by her grandson, Will, and "Sher Sher" by her granddaughter, Kimsey, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 28, 2008.

Born in Gaffney, she was the daughter of the late Grady A. Allison and Elsie T. Allison. She was a homemaker, Sunday School teacher, Brownie Scout leader and school volunteer during her daughter Lynne's elementary school years.

Her love of sewing led to a career in retail sales. She managed several fabric stores in Gaffney and surrounding counties and was co-owner and operator of "In-Gear," a retail clothing store at The Gaffney Mall shopping center. She loved to design custom draperies, window treatments and bedspreads. She also made clothes and costumes for her family.

Shirley worked for Taylor- Watson Furniture Company and later, Taylor Furniture. She was an avid gardener, growing herbs, vegetables and flowers. She loved to cook her grandchildren's favorite foods. She attended Fairview Baptist Church.

In addition to her only child, Lynne Owens Price, and husband, Bill, she is survived by the two loves of her life, grandson Will Price and granddaughter Kimsey Price, and their grandfather, David E. Owens; sisters, Louise Allison (Tootie) and Sybil Jean Greene, both of Gaffney; brothers, Dickie Allison and wife, Beverly, and Ray Allison and wife, Sandra; and special nieces, Jamie Allison, Pam Green, Kimberly Ettlemeyer and Lorene Byars.

Extended family members include Laura Allison, Lois Bullock, Sandra Cole and Ronnie Wyatt. Shirley was blessed with many devoted friends - Freddie Coggins, Becky Jefferies, Frances Mabry, Marge McClellan, Pat Mulligan, Barbara Padgett, Gerry Taylor, Carolyn Watson, Susan White and Linda Wilson. Many of these friends shared lunch and tea parties with her. Also, special neighbors, Albert and Norma Kovelesky and Candes Gibson.

Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Yee and the "Divas," Lynn, Teresa, Sonya and Da'reash, and entire staff at the Cancer Center of the Carolinas in Spartanburg. Sincere gratitude to each of you at Hospice Care of South Carolina.

Services will be held Tuesday, July 1, at 2 p.m. in Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stuart Kersey officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Monday, June 30, from 6-8 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials may be made to Camp KUDOS Inc., P.O. Box 1112, Matthews, N.C. 28106.

The family is at the home of Bill and Lynne Price, 1729 Chesnee Hwy.
