Post 109 junior team stays red hot
      The American Legion Post 109 junior team made things look easy at Chester on Saturday. Josh Mata had three hits and four RBIs and Clay McKowen had two hits and knocked in two runs to help first-place Post 109 to a 13-4 victory.

Baker strings together 'turkeys' for win
      Stoney Baker strung together two bowling "turkeys" Sunday afternoon to capture his 20th pro bowling title in Gaffney. Baker delivered a strike in six of his final seven frames to defeat Greenville resident Lee Vanderhoef, 217-202, in the first Peach Bowl at Starmax. Baker was given a $2,500 check and a silver Eagle trophy to add to his trophy collection.

Local all-star s thump foes
      The Blacksburg Major League All-Stars are special. Just ask their opposition at the Cal Ripken League district tournament. The team has breezed to today's championship game at the Cherokee County Youth Sports Complex by beating its opposition by a combined score of 47-6.

Indians leave mark at FCA camp
      The Gaffney High basketball team won all eight games it played at this weekend's Fellowship of Christian Athletes team camp. Several teams from Georgia and Upstate South Carolina traveled to compete with Gaffney in a camp organized by area FCA director Pierre Salmon. The camp was held at the First Baptist Church LIFE center.

      Booster Club accepting members The Gaffney High Football Booster Club is accepting new members. The membership levels include the Warrior for $200 and Chief's Council for $500. Warrior members receive two hospitality room passes, priority parking for home games, name in football program and the option to purchase away game tickets.

Kurt Busch gets rain-shortened victory in sprint car race
      LOUDON, N.H. - Former series champion Kurt Busch stayed on track when the leaders pitted late in Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at New Hampshire and the strategy paid off with a win when the race was cut 17 laps short by rain.
