The American Legion Post 109 junior team made things look easy at Chester on Saturday.

Josh Mata had three hits and four RBIs and Clay McKowen had two hits and knocked in two runs to help first-place Post 109 to a 13-4 victory.

Dylan Huskey started and went three innings to pick up the win. He allowed just one run.

Joey Copeland pitched two innings of relief before Nick Smiley finished up.

"We hit the ball and played good team baseball," Post 109 coach Travis Clary said. "We had a lot of sacrifice bunts."

Gaffney put three runs on the board in the third inning. Huskey walked and Jared Mills singled before Mata doubled both runners home. McKowen followed with a RBI single.

Gaffney added another run in the fifth and blew the game open with seven runs in the sixth.

Smiley got things going with a walk before Ryan Frock reached safely with a hit. Mills, Mata and McKowen all followed with RBI singles.

Post 109 took advantage of a couple of errors in the inning to score two more runs.

Mata singled home a run in the seventh to cap the scoring.

Gaffney, 9-3, travels to Lancaster on Tuesday.
