Scrap yard burglar gets 10 years A 51-year-old Gaffney man pleaded guilty June 24 to the March burglary of a Blacksburg scrap yard. Hoyle Mincey, of Marietta Road, entered the plea before Circuit Court Judge Mark Hayes in Cherokee County General Sessions Court. According to court records, Judge Hayes sentenced Mincey to 10 years in prison which will be suspended after the service of two years, and two years of probation following his release. Mincey was given credit for time served. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office alleged in an arrest warrant that Mincey entered Smith's Scrap Yard on March 11, in the nighttime, with the intent to commit a crime. . A 41-year-old Gaffney man pleaded guilty last week in Cherokee County General Sessions Court to the burglary of a Palmetto Street residence. According to court records, Circuit Court Judge Mark Hayes sentenced Jeffrey Dean Blanton, of Walnut Street, to 10 years in prison, suspended after the service of 18 months, followed by three years of probation. Blanton was given credit for time served since Jan. 3. The Gaffney Police Department accused Blanton in an arrest warrant with the break-in of a Palmetto Street residence between Feb. 1, 2007 and Aug. 7, 2007. - Tim Gulla |
