Lewis V. Jefferies

Lewis Vernon Jefferies, 80, of 167 Telegraph Road, Bridgeton, N.J., widower of Minnie Lee Dawkins Jefferies, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Cooper Medical Center in Camden, N.J.

A native of Gaffney, he was the son of the late Daniel Jefferies and the late Blanche Montgomery Jefferies. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church of Gaffney. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was retired from Getty's Oil Company of Claymont, Del., after 40 years of service.

Left to cherish fond memories are six sons, Lewis Vernon Jefferies Jr. (Emma) of Wilmington, Del., Franklin Jefferies (Marilyn) of Columbia, James Jefferies of Gainesville, Fla., Micheal Jefferies (Tamara), Harold Jefferies, both of Gaffney, and Raymond Dunn (Jennifer) of Bronx, N.Y.; two daughters, Patricia Brooks (John) of Penn's Grove, N.J., and Kay Ann Swanson (Micheal) of Westville, N.J.; four sisters, Carrie Jefferies, Emma Houston, Louise Wilson and Elizabeth Jefferies, all of Gaffney; reared as his brothers and sisters, Leo Jefferies of Lancaster, Orban Jefferies, Dorothy Allen and Marie Jefferies, all of Gaffney; and a host of grandchildren, greatgrandchildren an other relatives.

Services will be held Thursday, July 3, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Pentecostal Church in Penn's Grove, N.J., with Bishop Freddie Washington officiating. Interment will be in Veterans Cemetery in Woodstown, N.J. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

A mini-viewing will be held Wednesday, July 2, from 5-7 p.m.

The family is at the residence.
