Gaffney, Lancaster split twinbill

The Post 109 junior American Legion team and Lancaster entered Tuesday tied for the top spot in League V.

Today, they remained deadlocked after splitting a doubleheader.

Michael Wright allowed six hits and struck out five and Josh Mata had two hits to help Post 109 earn a split with a 6-4 win in the nightcap.

Corey Crissone took the loss in Lancaster's 13-3 victory in the first game.

"We came out flat in the first game, but we played like we are supposed to in the second game," Gaffney coach Travis Clary said. Although they have identical records 10-4 records, Gaffney has won two of the three matchups between the teams.

Trailing by a run in the second game, Gaffney went ahead to stay with three runs in the fifth.

Jared Mills walked and Mata doubled before each scored on an error.

Wright followed with a RBI groundout.

Gaffney made it 2-0 in the first. Mills singled, stole second and scored on Mata's single. Mata came home on a passed ball.

Lancaster answered with a run in the bottom of the first.

Gaffney extended its lead to 3-1 in the third when Mata walked and scored on Crissone's double.

Lancaster tied it at 3-all in the third and took the lead with a run in the fourth.

In the first game, Bryon Munsterman and Bo Wray each pitched effectively in relief of Crissone.

Wright had two of Post 109's four hits in the game.

Gaffney ends its regular season today against visiting York. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
