      Dear Annie: This is in response to "Patriotic Idiot," who asked about putting one's hand over the heart during the singing of the national anthem. You mentioned the 1942 guidelines stating that civilians should place the hand over the heart and those in uniform should salute.

      Holiday events Hopewell Baptist Church in Blacksburg will have its annual 4th of July celebration today from 7-9 p.m. Everyone is invited to come enjoy food, games, music and fireworks. Everything is free. Pleasant Hill Baptist Church will have a community-wide July 4th celebration today from 5-7:30 p.m.
