Reid to play in Europe
After being bypassed in last week's NBA draft, Gaffney's AZ Reid is entertaining offers to play professionally in Europe Former Gaffney High basketball standout AZ Reid likely won't get to wear an NBA uniform next season.
So, he'll settle for a uniform from a European team.
Reid, who was not drafted by an NBA team, said his agent has received four or five offers from European teams, including two in Greece.
Reid said each team is offering a six-figure contract.
Reid has until Aug. 1 to sign with a European team.
"I'll sit down with my agent and decide," he said.
Reid had hoped to play with an NBA summer league team, but he has no interest in doing that now.
Instead, he'll be playing in the Raleigh Pro-Am league, in Raleigh, N.C., near the home of his agent, former North Carolina State star Jamie Knox.
Reid said it was disappointing not to hear his name called during last Thursday's NBA draft.
"It was a tough pill to swallow," he said. "I thought I had a good chance to get drafted, especially by Golden State. But I'll just use that as motivation. Out of high school I didn't get a lot of offers and I showed people at High Point."
Reid worked out for Golden State, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Charlotte Bobcats prior to the draft.
Reid is the 2-time Big South Player of the Year and the league's all-time leading rebounder. He became the first Big South player in history to score more than 2,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds.
Reid also helped the Gaffney Indians to two of their three consecutive state championships.
