DNR to give safety checks

      Natural Resources Department officers will offer safety inspections at several South Carolina public boat landings during the July 4th weekend. Officers from the agency's Law Enforcement Division will perform the checks looking for proper safety equipment and boat and motor registrations.

No cases of West Nile virus confirmed in birds during June, DHEC says
      COLUMBIA - The state has confirmed no additional West Nile virus during June, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control. The latest confirmed cases were both birds - an American crow found in Summerville in Dorchester County on April 4 and an American crow found in Rock Hill in York County on May 1.

Mt. Whitaker Church to host LifeLine screenings July 16
      SPARTANBURG - Residents living in and around the Blacksburg community can be screened to reduce their risk of having a stroke or heart attack. Life Line Screening will be at Mount Whitaker Baptist Church, 434 N. Mountain St., on Wednesday, July 16. Appointments will begin at 9 a.m.

'Hot Dog Day' is set for July 12 at Greenville Zoo
      GREENVILLE - The Grenville Zoo's annual Hot Dog Day is planned Saturday, July 12. Festivities begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m. Hot dogs, chips, soft drinks, cotton candy and ice cream will sell for 25 cents each. Admission is $6 for adults. Children's admission is reduced to $1 for the event. One child will be admitted free for each Bi-Lo bonus card presented.
