     NEW SORORITY MEMBERS - Xi Alpha Delta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi welcomed two new members, Carolyn Jones and Louise Spenser of Shelby, into the chapter. A ritual was held June 6 at the home of Ruth Ann Ohlsen. After the ceremony, members enjoyed a cookout.

Cherokee Mental Health honors two local legislators
      Reps. Olin Phillips and Rep. Dennis Moss were recently invited to a luncheon at the Cherokee Mental Health Center, where they were honored for their support. Phillips and Moss were presented awards of excellence from the center's director, Dr. Richard Harrison, and the psychosocial rehabilitation coordinator, Dottie Peterson.

      The United Methodist Women of Dunton United Methodist Church will host their annual Mad Hatters Tea on Saturday, July 19. All women and men are invited to enjoy a cup of tea from 3-5 p.m. The only requirement to attend is that one wear a favorite hat.

Descendants of Rachel Baxter and Wright Byers will have a family reunion Saturday, Aug. 2, at 1 p.m. in the Family Life Center at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Events will conclude Sunday, Aug 3, at 10:45 a.m.

Bethany VBS set for July 14-18
      "God's BIG Backyard - Where Kids Have Fun Serving Jesus!" is the theme for this year's Vacation Bible School at Bethany Baptist Church. Kids and youths can gather for VBS on Monday, July 14, through Friday, July 18, from 6-8:30 p.m. each day. Children from babies to teenagers are invited to participate.
