Police investigate report of exploding commode

The Gaffney Police Department is investigating a July 5 incident during which a motel room commode was apparently blown up with fireworks.

According to a police report, an employee of the Super 8 motel on Ellis Ferry Road received a complaint from a guest that fireworks had gone off in the room above her and that there was water pouring down the wall. The employee went to the room and found a hole in the toilet and water covering the floor. The guest staying in the room, a 19-year-old Gaffney man, denied any knowledge of what happened. The guest left before police arrived. Damage is estimated at $1,500.

A pool liner was slashed just one day after a pool was erected in a 9th Street yard, according to a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.

The malicious damage apparently occurred between 1:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. July 5. Damage is estimated at $600.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported the burglary of a Gaston Shoals Road home.

According to an incident report, someone forced entry to the home in the 100 block between June 24 and July 2, ransacking the interior and stealing a glass jar with an estimated $150 in change, assorted jewelry valued at $100, collectible swords valued at $100, two fishing reels valued at $80 and two cordless phones. Total theft losses are estimated at $550.

An East Frederick Street, Gaffney, business sustained an estimated $650 in damage recently when someone fired a bullet into its front door.

According to a report at the Gaffney Police Department, the door at Tyler Home Center was struck with a bullet between June 20 and June 30. Police said the bullet appeared to come from a 9mm weapon. The glass in the exterior door and an interior door were damaged.

The Gaffney Police Department reported the July 1 arrest of a 38-year-old woman for shoplifting at the Wal-Mart on West Floyd Baker Boulevard.

According to a police report, a store employee claimed to have seen Kimberly Christine Gowan, of Kraft Street, place a tank top and shorts in her pocketbook and attempt to leave the store.

When questioned by police, she allegedly told an officer she tried to take the merchandise so she could return the items for money to buy cigarettes, according to the report.

A handgun and ring were stolen from a Rock Springs Road home in Blacksburg during a recent burglary.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone forced entry into the home in the 200 block between June 30 and July 1 by kicking open a door. A small handgun and a gold-colored ring were taken. Theft losses are estimated at $700 while damage is estimated at $500.

Catalytic converters were stolen from two trucks at Chesnee auto lot recently.

According to a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the thefts occurred between June 27 and July 1 at Whitey Green Truck Ranch. The catalytic converters were taken from two Ford F-350 trucks. There was no estimate on the theft or damage losses sustained by the business.

A generator chained to a home's porch on West Cherokee Street in Blacksburg was stolen July 1.

According to a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the generator is valued at about $1,485.

The Gaffney Police Department served an arrest warrant July 3 accusing a 23- year-old city man with a strongarm robbery that occurred last February.

According to the warrant, police allege Jerroid Nathaniel Shippy, of Kennedy Street, took $70 by force from a minor on Robert's Alley on Feb. 29.

Two power saws and prescription medicines were stolen from a truck during a vehicle break-in on North Granard Street, according to a report at the Gaffney Police Department.

Police said the thief or thieves broke a window on a truck between July 2 and July 3 while it was parked in the 1200 block. The victim lost two Skil-brand saws and various medications. Theft and damage losses are estimated at a combined $600.

About $500 worth of copper wire was cut from a property owned by King's Creek Church of God in Blacksburg recently.

According to a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone took the wire running from a residence to a well house in the 700 block of Mullinax Circle. The theft occurred between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on July 4.

Two firearms were reported stolen from a Bridges Farm Road home July 7 following a burglary.

According to a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone entered the home through an unlocked door between 10:20 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. Missing from the home were a Llama .45-caliber handgun and a High Point .40-caliber handgun with a combined value of $450.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a July 6 incident during which someone fired a gunshot at a Gateway Drive home.

According to a police report, the incident happened at about 12 p.m. The bullet traveled through two window panes, blinds and lodged in an interior wall, causing an estimated $500 in damage.

A burglar or burglars caused an estimated $5,500 in damage to a Ballenger Road home after ripping open walls and stealing electrical outlets.

According to a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the break-in occurred between June 23 and July 7.

An air conditioning unit was stolen from a Jackson Street home during a burglary that occurred between July 5 and July 6, according to a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.

The unit is valued at about $200. Police did not indicate how entry to the home in the 200 block was made.
