      Dear Annie: My mother suffers from Alzheimer's and has not really been with us mentally for the last 15 years. She is in a home and my father visits regularly. Dad is in his mid-70s. About 10 years ago, he started seeing a woman several years my junior (I'm 43). I can understand his need for companionship. It's the age difference that bothers me.

      Steve Holt will present a magic show on Thursday, July 17, at 10:30 a.m. at the Black burg Library and at 2:30 p.m. at the Cherokee County Public Library in Gaffney. Holt presents a performance full of color, music and audience participation. He is a full-time magician and performer and has presented quality family shows for 35 years.

Researchers ID some new health benefits of Vitamin D
      ROCHESTER, Minn.- Vitamin D is essential to strong bones. Inadequate vitamin D can lead to osteoporosis, a brittle bone disease. Recently, researchers have found that vitamin D may help reduce the risk of other diseases. The July issue of Mayo Clinic Women's HealthSource reports some new findings and guidelines on how much vitamin D is enough.

      KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. - The City of Kings Mountain will host BeachBlast on Saturday, July 19, from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. This annual summertime family event will be at Patriots Park in downtown Kings Mountain. Held for the ninth year, the festival is a tribute to beach music.
