Kings Mountain ready for some summertime fun

2008-07-16 / LifeStyles

KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. - The City of Kings Mountain will host BeachBlast on Saturday, July 19, from 10 a.m.-10 p.m.

This annual summertime family event will be at Patriots Park in downtown Kings Mountain. Held for the ninth year, the festival is a tribute to beach music. Musical entertainment at the Gazebo will feature Crimson Rose, Billy Scott and the Party Prophets, and the Ricky Godfrey Band.

BeachBlast will also have its own beach in the form of a huge sand pile (largest in Cleveland County) and water features that include Water Wars - a water balloon battle royal, a huge vertical water spray and water jets from the Rotary Splash Pad.

And, what would a trip to the beach be without a swimsuit? BeachBlast will hold the Teenie Weenie Bikini Contest for boys and girls, six and under.

Need a beach ball to complete the experience? There will be hundreds released by Mayor Rick Murphrey off the end of the Kings Mountain Fire Departments Ladder No. 1, high in the air.

If you're hungry, try to be the best at the watermelon eating contest or visit any of the dozen food vendors offering a variety from barbecue to Hawaiian delicacies. Over 20 art and craft vendors will also be on hand along with rides and amusements for the children.
