Clara O. Brackett

Retired dietician

Clara O. Brackett, 85, of 512 W. Frederick St., widow of Benjamin James Brackett, died Monday, July 14, 2008, at 11:53 a.m. at her home.

A native of Gaffney, she was the daughter of the late Dee Wood and the late Doretha Gaston Wood. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and a graduate of Granard High School, where she was a star basketball player. Mrs. Brackett was a retired dietician from Kingstown Hospital, Brooklyn, N.Y.

Surviving are two sons, James Emerson Brackett (Brenda) of the home and Marion Tennyson Brackett (Monalesa) of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a stepson, George Oliver of Cowpens; a sister, Virginia W. Robbs (Eugene) of Gaffney; a daughter-in-law, Annett Brackett; 15 grandchildren and a host of greatgrandchildren; and dear friends, Willie Mae Donham, Robin Wilkinson, Marilyn Simpson and Harold Tate.

Services will be held Saturday, July 19, at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. J.W. Sanders Sr. and others officiating. Burial will be in Island Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Howard Camp, Harold Tate, Darryl Tate, Harold Wilkins, Albert Brackett and Stevie Steven.

Honorary pallbearer will be William Battles.

The family is at the residence.
