Dan Irvine Howard III
Served as counselor for South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Center in Walterboro for 23 years
WALTERBORO - Dan Irvine Howard III, 75, died Sunday, July 13, 2008, in Beaufort after several years of declining health. Mr. Howard was born on May 24, 1933, in Carlisle, Pa., to the late Dan I. Howard and Dorothy S. Howard, who moved from Idaho to Dale, S.C., a number of years ago. After graduating from Kemper Military School in Booneville, Mo., Mr. Howard received his B.A. from Furman University and his M.A. from Appalachian State University. He devoted many years of his life to the education of others, serving as a teacher, coach and principal. For 23 years, he served as a counselor for the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Center in Walterboro. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and the Walterboro Civitan Club. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Eunice Brown Howard. Also surviving are his son, Thomas I. Howard, and his wife, Marsha, of Walterboro and his daughter, Beth Howard Jones, and her husband, Billy, of Gaffney. Grandsons are Thomas and Robert Howard of Walterboro and Reid Jones of Gaffney. Services will be held Wednesday, July 16, at 10 a.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Live Oak Cemetery. Visitation was held Tuesday evening from 6-8 at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul St., Walterboro. The family is appreciative of the caregivers, Agnes Allen, Ella Wright and Alvin Haynes, for their excellent care during the past several years.
