Indians show improvement in passing league
PHIL STRICKLAND Gaffney High football coach Phil Strickland said he's feeling better about his team after Monday's appearance at the Presbyterian College 7-on-7 passing league.
"We are getting better," Strickland said. "The kids are learning the ins and outs of the patterns."
Scores were kept at the passing league. The Indians played Weddington High, Chapin, Butler High of Charlotte, Alexander Central, Greenbriar of Augusta and Laurens.
Joe Craig and Bo Davidson were under center for the Indians. DeEdward Burris, who's also in the mix at quarterback, didn't attend the passing league. Strickland said both quarterbacks are making strides in picking up the new no-huddle offense.
"They are getting a lot better with their timing," the Gaffney coach said.
The team's defensive backs also fared better this time.
"They played better than they did at Clemson," he said. "They were more aggressive and we had a couple of interceptions."
The Indians will return to action Thursday at the 3-day FCA passing league at USC-Upstate. Strickland said he plans to take about 35 players, including linemen, to the event.
"There will be a good amount of teams there," he said.
