The Gaffney Gold Mite League all-stars refused to crack on Monday.

After dropping the first game 17-6 to Woodruff, Jack Masters, Kyle Hamrick and Dylan Peterson each homered to help Gaffney capture the Cal Ripken state tournament for 7 and 8 year olds with a 17-3 victory.

Gaffney advances to play in the Southeast Regional in Union City, Tenn.

Gaffney regained the momentum early in the second game with three runs in the first inning. Trey McDaniel had a 2-run double to get the offense going.

Gaffney extended its lead to 11-0 in an eightrun second inning on homers by Masters, Hamrick and Peterson.

Woodruff threatened in the bottom of the second but shortstop Bradley Childers made a backhand stop and long throw to end the threat.

In the first game, Zack Gordon, Christian DeJarnette and Jacob Best all were 2 for 2 for Gaffney.

Charlie Black and Jacob Bostic were the defensive standouts in the game for Gaffney.
