Where is the love?
NASCAR Kyle Busch bows to the fans after winning the Nationwide Series Dollar General 300 last week at Chicagoland Speedway. " ... I wish they liked me," Busch says of the fans, "but I've got to play the bad-boy role and [have] them not like me, for whatever reason." Kyle Busch is winning about everything this season except the love of the fans.
On Saturday night, he scored his seventh Sprint Cup victory of the season at Chicagoland Speedway. That came about 24 hours after he won his series-leading fifth Nationwide Series race.
The cheers do seem to be gaining on the boos, but Busch appears to be wearing the "black hat," as far as some fans are concerned.
His comments to reporters after his two Chicagoland victories sounded humble, especially given his success this year.
"You go out there and do your job and do what you can," he said. "You've got to stay hungry and humble in this sport. The fans are here to support our racing, and I wish they liked me, but I've got to play the badboy role and [have] them not like me, for whatever reason.
"I'm trying, but all I can do is go out there and win races and try to do what I can to make my team happy and my sponsors happy and everybody who supports me. So when the fans are out there and they are cheering or booing, it's great to have them here. It's fun to have the recognition, whether they are cheering or booing. They are here for a reason, and that's so they can help support us."
