On the road again
Kyle Petty's Charity Ride again thunders across country
      Kyle Petty ended his summer stint in the TNT TV booth Saturday at Chicagoland Speedway, but before he gets back in his No. 45 Dodge next weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, he's spending a week on his Harley Davidson motorcycle leading the 14th annual Chick-fil-A Kyle Petty Charity Ride.

He's hot on the track, but fans haven 't warmed up to Kyle Busch
      Kyle Busch is winning about everything this season except the love of the fans. On Saturday night, he scored his seventh Sprint Cup victory of the season at Chicagoland Speedway. That came about 24 hours after he won his series-leading fifth Nationwide Series race.

      Close race at the bottom of the standings Because of Kyle Busch's success, there's not much of a points race at the top of the Cup standings, but it's tight around 12th place, the final spot that will compete in the championship-deciding Chase, which begins after seven more races.

      Coach Travis Clary is fond of saying that pitching and defense wins championships. His junior Post 109 American Legion team was missing one of those two in an extra-inning 4-2 loss to Florence in the state tournament on Thursday.

      Chase Smith scored 18 points to help One Time upset the favored Indians, 61-58, and advance to Monday's Cherokee County Summer Youth Basketball league's Division I touirnament championship game. Dorian Gillespie had 12 points in a losing effort.

      The flags around Royal Birkdale flapped in the stiff breeze Friday. A light mist fell from the gray clouds, which obscured any hint of the sun. Apparently, good weather for a Shark. Greg Norman, a 53-yearold newlywed, claimed the lead in the second round of the British Open.
