Carolyn Cash is Cherokee Children's Home 2007-2008 Volunteer of the Year
      Carolyn P. Cash has been named the Cherokee Children's Home 2007-2008 Volunteer of the Year. She was recently presented a plaque and a name plate has been added to a permanent plaque that hangs in the living room area at Children's Home.

Ronald McDonald visits local libraries on July 22
      Ronald McDonald will visit the Cherokee County Public Library in Gaffney on Tuesday, July 22, at 10:30 a.m. and later that day, at 2:30 p.m., will be at the Blacksburg library. In a fun-filled, educational program, Ronald uses a creative mix of music, magic and games to share with his audience the excitement of reading and books.

Columbia Museum of Art unveils gallery of ancient art
      COLUMBIA - The Columbia Museum of Art has unveiled a new and permanent installation of its ancient art collection. The world of the ancient Romans is represented by 2nd century glass and bronze items and portrait sculpture. Many of these works have not been seen since the museum moved to its location on Main Street in 1998.

Gaffney native celebrating 80th birthday on July 26
      Mildred Martin Butler will cross the 80th lifeline on July 26, 2008. Her journey in life began in Gaffney, where she was welcomed by her parents, M. Clarence and Annie Whiteside Martin. She graduated from Gaffney High School in 1946. On Nov. 16, 1946, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, she married her best friend, Ralph S. Butler.

      Karrigan McCayden Kirby Krista McClure and Brandon Kirby of Gaffney announce the birth of their daughter, Karrigan McCayden, on March 25, 2008, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center weighing 6 lbs. 5 ozs. Maternal grandparents are Jim and Angie McClure of Gaffney. Paternal grandparents are Billy and Lisa Kirby of Gaffney.
