Principal wants students to SHINE

      New Alma Elementary Principal Kim Camp wants students in her school to shine in their classes this year. SHINE refers to the inventive acronym Alma Elementary has chosen as a yearlong learning theme. In this instance, SHINE means: "All- Star Dream Team, Think Deeply, Imagine what can be, Inspire others and Celebrate success.

Salvation Army trying to provide school supplies for 100 children

      The Salvation Army has launched a community drive aimed at providing school supplies for 100 children when school starts Aug. 18. School supplies should be delivered to the Salvation Army as soon as possible because Luther Vaughan, Alma and Mary Bramlett elementaries are already in session, Salvation Army administrative assistant Darlene Henderson said.

     NEW MEMBER - The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce sponsored a Ribbon Cutting July 16th for its newest member, Trackside Diner. Trackside Diner is owned and operated by Mrs. Tracy Will and family and just celebrated its first year in business. The diner serves a wide variety of sandwiches on choice of bread, salads, homemade soups, choice of 3 quiches, a variety of beverages and homemade desserts. Delivery options are also available for Trackside for group or business lunches. Located at 416 Wall Street in downtown Gaffney, hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m.to 3 p.m. on Saturday. The phone number is 488-1948. Disturbance call leads to arrest of Gaffney man
      A 60-year-old Gaffney man was arrested Friday evening after police claimed he fired a gun while drunk at home. James Michael Studyvance, of 102 Oakview Drive, was charged by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office with discharging a firearm while intoxicated. The alleged incident occurred at 10 p.m.
