Deacon David Johnson
Deacon David B. Johnson, 76, of 1518 W. Buford St., husband of Eula Allen Johnson, passed away Friday, July 18, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. in Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, Spartanburg.
Son of the late Clarence Johnson and the late Eva Belle Rice Johnson, he was born Feb. 29, 1932, in Gaffney and was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church. Deacon Johnson
was a United States
Army veteran of
the Korean Conflict, a 1949 graduate of Granard High School and a member of the Gaffney Men's Bowling League.
Deacon Johnson was a member of Limestone Masonic Lodge No. 117. where he was a Past Master; member of Cherokee Consistory No. 267, where he was a Past Secretary; and a 32 Degree Mason. He was Mason of the Year for 1995- 1996. He was the head dietician at Limestone College and retired after 45 years of service.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Faye Williams of Gaffney; three grandchildren, Tamica T. Brown, Michelle Sarratt and Michael Sarratt, all of Gaffney; four great-grandchildren; two nieces who were reared as daughters, Donna Littlejohn of Columbus, Ga., and Renee Jackson of Columbia; a special goddaughter, Minister Cathy Neal; other godchildren, Clay Champion Jr. and Dell Champion; and a host of other relatives.
Services will be held Wednesday, July 23, at 2 p.m. at Philadelphia Baptist Church with Dr. Danny L. Burnside Sr., Dr. J. W. Sanders Sr. and the Revs. Lee Byers, John E. Wilkins and Coretta McElrath officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
Active pallbearers will be members of Limestone Masonic Lodge No. 117.
Flower bearers will be deaconess and trustees' wives.
Honorary pall bearers and will be deacons and trustees and employees of Limestone College.
