      The Blacksburg All-Stars will be seeking redemption at the Cal Ripken League Southeast Tournament for ages 12 and under. Blacksburg was upset by Woodruff, a team it beat in the district tournament here last month, in the state tournament. Blacksburg received an invitation after a team from Tennessee bowed out of the regional, coach Jimmy Morgan said.

Irmo a stiff challenge for Gaffney

      Gaffney Post 109 manager Jeff Osment prefers a challenge. He'll likely get one when his team travels today to Irmo to open the second round of the playoffs. Gaffney will host game two on Tuesday, with Irmo hosting game three on Wednesday. Game four, if necessary, will be played at Commissioners Field. Irmo would host winner-take-all game five on Friday.

Post 109 juniors lose to Lancaster

      Lancaster beat the Gaffney American Legion junior team when it really mattered on Friday. After dropping two of three to Gaffney in the regular season, Lancaster capitalized on a couple of errors to score five runs in the sixth to eliminate Gaffney from the state tournament with a 6-2 victory.

     IN GOOD COMPANY - Palmetto Gator 12 and under softball team member and Gaffney native Rebecca Campbell meets Team USA and former Arizona star pitcher Jennie Finch during the national softball hall of fame 12 and under fastpitch tournament in Oklahoma City. The Gators, who captured the regional tournament in Easley, finished 14th out of 26 teams at the national tournament. During the tournament, the players were able to watch Team USA play a series of games with China, Canada and a college all-star team.

Golfers head in different directions

      SOUTHPORT, England - Padraig Harrington and Greg Norman strolled away from the 18th green at Royal Birkdale, all even at two major championships apiece. Then, they headed off in different directions. Harrington had to reclaim the claret jug and ponder his growing stature within the sport. He's gone back-to-back in the British Open, but doesn't intend to stop there.
