Blacksburg Cal Ripken League All-Stars have advanced to the Southeast Regional in Georgia. The team will open regional play on Thursday. The Blacksburg All-Stars will be seeking redemption at the Cal Ripken League Southeast Tournament for ages 12 and under.

Blacksburg was upset by Woodruff, a team it beat in the district tournament here last month, in the state tournament. Blacksburg received an invitation after a team from Tennessee bowed out of the regional, coach Jimmy Morgan said.

The 10-team regional tournament begins Thursday.

"We won the district handily and ended up losing at the state," Morgan said. "We are very excited. This is an opportunity the kids may never have again to represent their state and town."

Morgan said participating in the state and regional tournament is a financial burden to the team. American Community Bank is accepting donations to offset the travel expenses.

Team members include Jake Morgan, Adam Lawhorn, Jacob Gibson, Brooke Hope, Tyler Cobb, Tyler Camp, Lance Moore, Andrew Pennington, Jay Baxter, Alex Raines and Brandon Scruggs.

DONATIONS

Donations can be made to the Blacksburg Baseball All-Star team at the American Community Bank.
